চ্যাম্পিয়ন্স লিগে দুর্দান্ত পারফর্ম করে বিশ্বের সব বড়বড় ক্লাবের নজরে এসেছেন হালান্ড। টুর্নামেন্টে নিজের অভিষেক ম্যাচেই করেন হ্যাটট্রিক। গ্রুপ পর্বের প্রথম পাঁচ ম্যাচে করেন আট গোল। এমন দুর্দান্ত পারফর্ম করার কারণে ৪০টি ক্লাবের নজর ছিল হালান্ডের ওপর। গ্রুপ পর্বের শেষ ম্যাচে লিভারপুলের বিপক্ষে হালান্ডের খেলা সেটা দেখতে মাঠে উপস্থিত ছিলেন ৪০টি ক্লাবের স্কাউট। তবে সবাইকে টপকে হালান্ডকে দলে ভেড়াল বুরুশিয়া। ২০ মিলিয়ন ইউরোতে তাকে দলে নিয়েছে তারা। যদিও অনেক ক্লাবই এরচেয়ে বেশি দেওয়ার জন্য প্রস্তুত ছিল।

১৯ বছরেই ফুটবল বিশ্বে নিজেকে প্রমাণ করেছেন হালান্ড। অস্ট্রিয়ান কাপে ১৯ জুলাই সালসবুর্গের হয়ে নিজের প্রথম হ্যাটট্রিক করেন তিনি। চলতি মৌসুমে নয় ম্যাচে করেছন তিন হ্যাটট্রিক। লিগে ভলফ্সবার্গার ও হার্টবার্গের বিপক্ষে করেছেন দুইটি হ্যাটট্রিক। এবার জেঙ্কের সঙ্গে হ্যাটট্রিক করেছেন চ্যাম্পিয়নস লিগে। তার হ্যাটট্রিকে ৬-২ গোলে জেঙ্ককে হারিয়েছে সালসবুর্গ।

চ্যাম্পিয়নস লিগের ইতিহাসে অভিষেক ম্যাচে হ্যাটট্রিক করা অষ্টম খেলোয়াড় হালান্ড। সবশেষ সপ্তম খেলোয়াড় হিসেবে ইয়াসিন ব্রাহিমি এ রেকর্ড গড়েন। আর টিনএজ খেলোয়াড় হিসেবে ২০০৪ সালে ম্যানচেস্টার ইউনাইটেডের ওয়েন রুনির পর চ্যাম্পিয়নস লিগে হ্যাটট্রিক করেন এ নরওয়েজিয়ান স্ট্রাইকার।
