আটলান্টিকের বুকে ভেসে থাকা ছোট্ট দ্বীপ সেন্ট হেলেনা। দ্বীপটি বিখ্যাত, এখানেই নেপোলিয়ানকে নির্বাসনে দিয়েছিল ব্রিটিশরা। ব্রিটিশরা এখনও ভয়ঙ্কর অপরাধীদের নির্বাসনে পাঠায় আগ্নেয়গিরি প্রবণ এই দ্বীপে।
মাত্র ৪৭ বর্গমাইল এবং সাড়ে চার হাজার মানুষের এই দ্বীপটি ব্রিটিশ মালিকানাধীন। শুধু তাই নয়, বাকি বিশ্ব থেকে পুরোপুরি আলাদা এই দ্বীপ। তবে, এখনও পর্যন্ত সেন্ট হেলেনায় কোনো করোনাভাইরাসের রোগি পাওয়া যায়নি। তবুও, ৫ হাজার মাইল পাড়ি দিয়ে সেখানে পাঠানো হয়েছে করোনা সুরক্ষ সরঞ্জাম।

এ পরিস্থিতিতে মাত্র সাড়ে চার হাজার মানুষের জন্য, যেখানে কোনো আক্রান্তের খবর নাই, সেখানে ২৬ কোটি ২৮ লাখ টাকার করোনা সুরক্ষা সরঞ্জাম পাঠিয়েছে ব্রিটিশ কর্তৃপক্ষ। শুধু পিপিই নয়, যে সরঞ্জাম পাঠানো হয়েছে, সেখানে রয়েছে মাস্ক, হ্যান্ড গ্লাভস, গাউনসহ আরও বেশ কিছু আইটেম। এমনকি ব্রিটিশ মিডিয়ায় বলা হয়েছে, যে ফ্লাইটে করে এসব সরঞ্জাম পাঠানো হয়েছে, সেখানে ছিল ৫টি ভেন্টিলেটরও।
এমন এক সময়ে এই খবর প্রকাশ পেলো, যখন পর্যাপ্ত সুরক্ষা সামগ্রীর অভাবে ১০০’র বেশি ন্যাশনাল হেলথ সার্ভিসের কর্মীর (ডাক্তার ও নার্স) মৃত্যু হয়েছে। যেখানে ভেন্টিলেটরের অভাবে প্রতিদিনই অগনিত মানুষের প্রাণ যাচ্ছে, সেখানে সেন্ট হেলেনায় কেন এতকিছু পাঠানো হচ্ছে, তা নিয়ে তুমুল সমালোচনা তৈরি হয়েছে ব্রিটেনে।
সেন্ট হেলেনায় করোনার মত উপসর্গ দু’জনের শরীরে দেখা দিয়েছে বলে খবরে প্রকাশ করে ইউরো উইকলি। পরে জানা গেছে, ওই খবরটি ভুয়া। তবুও বিশাল সরঞ্জামের বহর নিয়ে আক্রা এবং ঘানা হয়ে সেন্ট হেলেনায় গিয়ে পৌঁছেছে ব্রিটেনের একটি চাটার্ড ফ্লাইট।
দ্বীপটির এমন অবস্থান, যাতে করে পুরো বিশ্ব থেকেই বিচ্ছিন্ন তারা। অটোমেটিক আইসোলেশনে রয়েছে তারা। তবুও যে দু’জনের সর্দি, জ্বরের কথা বলা হয়েছিল, তারা নিজেরাই আইসোলেশনে চলে গিয়েছিল বলে খবরে প্রকাশ। পরে এমনিতেই তারা সুস্থ হয়ে যায়।
সেন্ট হেলেনার গভর্নর ড. ফিলিপ রুশব্রুক বলেন, এই দ্বীপে বয়স্ক কিংবা স্বাস্থ্যহীন মানুষের সংখ্যা কম। যারা রয়েছে, তাদের এমনিতেই প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশের কারণে সুঠাম স্বাস্থ্যের অধিকারী।’ সেন্ট হেলেনায় ২০১৭ সাল পর্যন্ত জাহাজ ছাড়া আসা-যাওয়া করার কোনো উপায় ছিল না। ২০১৭ সালে একটি এয়ারপোর্ট তৈরি করা হয়, ছোট বিমান ওঠা-নামা করা যায় এতে।
শুধু সেন্ট হেলেনাতেই নয়, ব্রিটেন জরুরি স্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষা সরঞ্জাম পাঠিয়েছে পিটকেয়ার্ন আইল্যান্ড এবং ট্রিস্টান ডি চুনহাতেও। এই দুটি ছোট্ট দ্বীপে এমনিতেই মানুষের যাতায়াত কম। করোনা ভাইরাসের কারণে তো আরও নেই।
