ব্রাজিলের সাও পাওলো রাজ্যের সরকারি গবেষণা কেন্দ্র ইনস্টিটিউট বুটান্টানের নেতৃত্বে ভ্যাকসিনটির পরীক্ষা হবে। গত ১১ জুন এ ব্যাপারে প্রথমবারের মতো ঘোষণা দেয়া হয়েছিল। চুক্তি অনযায়ী, করোনার সম্ভাব্য এই ভ্যাকসিনের শুধু পরীক্ষাই নয়, বরং সফল হলে ব্রাজিলে স্থানীয়ভাবে এর উৎপাদন কাজেও প্রযুক্তিগত সহায়তা করবে চীন।
গত ২৯ জুন সাও পাওলো রাজ্যের গভর্নর জোয়াও ডোরিয়া বলেন, কোভিড-১৯ এর এই ভ্যাকসিনটির পরীক্ষায় অংশ নেয়ার জন্য ইতোমধ্যে প্রায় ৯ হাজার স্বেচ্ছাসেবী নিবন্ধন করেছেন।
তিনি বলেছেন, ব্রাজিলের ছয়টি রাজ্যের অন্তত ১২টি গবেষণা কেন্দ্র ভ্যাকসিনটির পরীক্ষা কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করবে। এই রাজ্যগুলো হলো- সাও পাওলো, রিও ডি জেনেরিও, মিনাস গেরাইস, ব্রাসিলিয়া, রিও গ্রান্ডে ডো সুল ও পারানা।
ব্রাজিলের স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের তথ্য বলছে, দেশটিতে করোনাভাইরাসে আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা ১৫ লাখ ছাড়িয়েছে। যা করোনা আক্রান্তের সংখ্যায় বিশ্বে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পর দ্বিতীয় সর্বোচ্চ। এছাড়া দেশটিতে গত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় করোনায় মারা গেছেন আরও এক হাজার ২৯০ জন। এ নিয়ে দেশটিতে করোনায় মারা গেছেন ৬৩ হাজার ১৭৪ জন। সূত্র: রয়টার্স।
