নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদক : বালু তুলতে গিয়ে দেশের দ্বিতীয় সাবমেরিন কেবল লাইন কাটা পড়ায় দেশে ইন্টারনেটে ধীরগতি ভর করেছে। রবিবার (৯ আগস্ট) ১১টার দিকে পটুয়াখালীতে সাবমেরিন ক্যাবল-২-এর ল্যান্ডিং স্টেশনের প্রায় তিন কিলোমিটার দূরে বেলা পাওয়ার ক্যাবল কাটা পড়ে। তারপর থেকে দেশে ইন্টারনেটে গতি কমে গেছে।
বাংলাদেশ সাবমেরিন কেবল কোম্পানি লিমিটেডের (বিএসসিসিএল) ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক মশিউর রহমান বলেন, স্থানীয় লোকজন এক্সকাভেটর দিয়ে বালু তুলতে গিয়ে সাবমেরিন কেবলের (এসইএ-এমই-ডব্লিউই-৫) পাওয়ার সাপ্লাই ও অপটিক্যাল ফাইবার ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত করেছে। কতটুকু ক্ষতি হয়েছে, তা যাচাইয়ের কাজ চলছে। এরপর বলা যাবে কখন ইন্টারনেটের ধীরগতির সমস্যার সমাধান হবে।
জানা গেছে, ল্যান্ডিং স্টেশন এলাকায় খারাপ আবহাওয়া থাকায় পাওয়ার ক্যাবল মেরামতে সময় লাগছে। আজকের মধ্যেই মেরামত সম্পন্ন হবে বলে সংশ্লিষ্টরা আশা করছেন।
মশিউর রহমান জানান, ক্যাবলের অনেকখানি জায়গা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। জায়গাটি খুঁড়ে দেখা হচ্ছে। এর কারণে একটু সময় লাগছে। দ্রুত সমস্যা সমাধানের চেষ্টা চলছে। সারাদেশে যে ব্যান্ডউইথ ব্যবহার করা হয় তার প্রায় অর্ধেক দ্বিতীয় সাবমেরিন ক্যাবল দিয়ে আসে। এ কারণে ইন্টারনেটে ধীরগতি দেখা দিয়েছে বলে জানান ইন্টারনেট সেবাদাতা প্রতিষ্ঠানের কর্মকর্তারা। ঢাকাসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে ইন্টারনেট সেবায় বিঘ্ন ঘটার সমস্যার খবর পাওয়া গেছে। এদিকে বাংলাদেশ সাবমেরিন ক্যাবল কোম্পানি লিমিটেড (বিএসসিসিএল) জানিয়েছে, কুয়াকাটায় সাবমেরিন ক্যাবলের লাইনে সমস্যা হয়েছে। বিএসসিসিএল লাইন মেরামতে কাজ করছে।
আইআইজি (ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইন্টারনেট গেটওয়ে) প্রতিষ্ঠান লেভেল-থ্রি’র ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক জুনায়েদ আহমেদ বলেন,পাওয়ার ক্যাবল কাটার পরপরই আমরা জানতে পারি। আমাদের জানানো হয়,৭ ঘণ্টার মধ্যে (সন্ধ্যা ৬টা) মেরামত কাজ সম্পন্ন হবে।‘ তিনি আরও বলেন, `আমরা জেনেছি কুয়াকাটা এলাকায় খারাপ আবহাওয়া বিরাজ করায় পাওয়ার ক্যাবল মেরামতে দেরি হচ্ছে। ফলে নির্ধারিত সময়ের মধ্যে কাজ শেষ না হওয়ার আশঙ্কা রয়েছে। এদিকে ব্রডব্যান্ড (উচ্চগতি) ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারকারীরা গতিবিষয়ক সমস্যায় পড়েছেন।
তিনি জানান, সাবমেরিন ক্যাবল-১ ও আইটিসির (ইন্টারন্যাশনাল টেরেস্ট্রিলিয়াল ক্যাবল) মাধ্যমে প্রাপ্ত ব্যান্ডউইথ দিয়ে আমরা ইন্টারনেট সেবা দিচ্ছি। এতে করে সেবার মান খারাপ হচ্ছে। গতি অনেক কমে গেছে।
তিনি আরও জানান, সিঙ্গাপুরের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের প্রায় ৬০ শতাংশ যোগাযোগ এখন বিচ্ছ্ন্নি অবস্থায় রয়েছে।
প্রসঙ্গত, বর্তমানে দেশে ১ হাজার ৭৫০ জিবিপিএস (গিগাবাইট পার সেকেন্ড) ব্যান্ডউইথ ব্যবহার হচ্ছে। এর অর্ধেকের বেশি আসে দ্বিতীয় সাবমেরিন ক্যাবল দিয়ে।
