নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদক : শহীদ রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমান ও বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়ার ছোট ছেলে মরহুম আরাফাত রহমান কোকোর ৫১তম জন্মদিন আজ ১২ আগস্ট, বুধবার। দিনটি উপলক্ষে নানা কর্মসূচি হাতে নিয়েছে বিএনপি।
কর্মসূচির মধ্যে রয়েছে আজ সকাল ১০টায় মরহুমের কবর জিয়ারত। এ ছাড়া দুপুরে বিভিন্ন এতিমখানায় খাবার বিতরণ করা হবে। বাদ আসর গুলশানে বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসনের রাজনৈতিক কার্যালয়ে দোয়া মাহফিলের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।
এসব তথ্য নিশ্চিত করেছেন বিএনপির ক্রীড়াবিষয়ক সম্পাদক আমিনুল হক ও বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসনের গণমাধ্যম শাখার সদস্য শায়রুল কবির খান।
তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের আমলে জরুরি অবস্থার সময় মামলায় গ্রেপ্তার হয়ে এক বছর কারাগারে ছিলেন আরাফাত রহমান কোকো। ২০০৮ সালের ১৭ জুলাই মুক্তি পেয়ে চিকিৎসার জন্য থাইল্যান্ড যান তিনি। সেখান থেকে পাড়ি জমান মালয়েশিয়ায়।
২০১৫ সালের ২৪ জানুয়ারি মালয়েশিয়ায় হৃদরোগে আক্রান্ত হন আরাফাত রহমান কোকো। বাংলাদেশ সময় দুপুর সাড়ে ১২টার দিকে অসুস্থ অবস্থায় মালয়েশিয়ার ন্যাশনাল হাসপাতালে নেওয়ার পথে বিশিষ্ট এই ক্রীড়া সংগঠক ইন্তেকাল করেন। ২৮ জানুয়ারি আরাফাত রহমান কোকোর মরদেহ দেশে আনা হয়।
সে সময় বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়া গুলশান কার্যালয়ে অবরুদ্ধ ছিলেন। সেখানেই ছেলের মরদেহ দেখে শেষ বিদায় জানান সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী। ওই দিনই বায়তুল মোকাররম জাতীয় মসজিদে জানাজা শেষে বনানী কবরস্থানে তাঁর লাশ দাফন করা হয়। মরহুমের জানাজায় লাখ লাখ মানুষের উপস্থিতি ছিল।
