১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশের সাধারণ মানুষের ওপর পাকিস্তান সরকারের নির্যাতন চালিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের কাছে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনার জন্য দেশটির সরকারের ওপর জনগণের চাপ প্রয়োগ করা উচিত বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন পাকিস্তানের সাবেক রাষ্ট্রদূত হুসেইন হাক্কানি।
সোমবার (২৯ মার্চ) বেলজিয়ামে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের আয়োজনে ‘বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান: গণতন্ত্রের প্রতীক’ শীর্ষক এক ভার্চুয়াল আলোচনায় তিনি এ মন্তব্য করেন। মঙ্গলবার (৩০ মার্চ) পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় এক বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ তথ্য জানায়।
তিনি বলেন, ১৯৭১ সালে পাকিস্তানি সেনারা যে নৃশংসতা চালিয়েছিল, তার ক্ষমা হতে পারে না। ক্ষমা চাওয়ার পাকিস্তানের জনগণের মধ্যেও দাবি ওঠা উচিৎ।
হাক্কানী বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধু শুধু সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালিই নন, তিনি দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নেতা এবং বিশ্বের ইতিহাসের এক মহান নেতা এবং বিশ্বজুড়ে ২০ শতকের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের একজন প্রবাদপ্রতিম নেতা। বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের অবস্থান মহাত্মা গান্ধী এবং নেলসন ম্যান্ডেলার মতো মহান নেতাদের কাতারে।
রাষ্ট্রদূত হুসেইন হাক্কানি ২০০৮ থেকে ২০১১ সাল পর্যন্ত যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে নিযুক্ত পাকিস্তানের রাষ্ট্রদূত ছিলেন। তিনি বর্তমানে হাডসন ইন্সটিটিউটে ফেলো হিসেবে নিয়োজিত।
ওই ভার্চুয়াল আলোচনায় পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ড. এ কে আবদুল মোমেন উপস্থিত ছিলেন। অনুষ্ঠানটি সঞ্চালনা করেন বেলজিয়ামে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত মাহবুব সাহান সালেহ।
অনুষ্ঠানে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ড. এ কে আবদুল মোমেন বলেন, বাংলাদেশের জনগণও চায় যে পাকিস্তান ১৯৭১ সালের অপরাধের জন্য ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করুক। আমরা এখন স্বাধীনতার সুবর্ণজয়ন্তী পালন করছি। এই উপলক্ষ্যে পাকিস্তান এখন গণহত্যার জন্য বাংলাদেশের কাছে ক্ষমা চাইতে পারে। তিনি আরও বলেন, বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে পাকিস্তানের প্রধানমন্ত্রী ইমরান খান বার্তা পাঠিয়েছেন, তবে সেই বার্তায় একত্তরের গণহত্যার ঘটনায় তারা কোনো ক্ষমা চায়নি।
