ঢাকাই সিনেমার শক্তিমান এক নাম ওয়াসিম। ‘৭০ ও ‘৮০ দশকের একজন জনপ্রিয় অভিনেতা। নায়ক হিসেবে তার ছিল দুর্দান্ত সাফল্য। সেই সোনালী যাত্রার সমাপ্তি হলো শনিবার (১৭ এপ্রিল) দিবাগত রাত ১২টা ৩০ মিনিটে। রাজধানীর শাহাবুদ্দিন মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালে শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন তিনি।
১৯৫০ সালে জন্ম নেয়া এ অভিনেতার বয়স হয়েছিলো ৭১ বছর।
তাকে দাফন করা হবে রাজধানীর বনানী কবরস্থানে। বাংলাদেশ চলচ্চিত্র শিল্পী সমিতির সাধারণ সম্পাদক জায়েদ খান এ তথ্য নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
জায়েদ বলেন, ওয়াসিম ভাইকে এখন গোসল করানো হচ্ছে। এরপর তার মরদেহ ফ্রিজিং গাড়িতে রাখা হবে।
রোববার (১৮ এপ্রিল) জোহর নামাজের পরে গুলশান আজাদ মসজিদে তার প্রথম নামাজে জানাযা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। এরপর বনানী কবরস্থানে দ্বিতীয় জানাযা শেষে সেখানেই দাফন করা হবে।
১৯৫০ সালের ২৩ মার্চ চাঁদপুর জেলার আমিরাবাদে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন ওয়াসিম। তার পারিবারিক নাম মেজবাহ উদ্দীন আহমেদ।
তিনি ইতিহাস বিষয়ে স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন।
কলেজের ছাত্রাবস্থায় তিনি বডিবিল্ডার হিসেবে নাম করেছিলেন। ১৯৬৪ সালে তিনি বডিবিল্ডিংয়ের জন্য মি. ইস্ট পাকিস্তান খেতাব অর্জন করেছিলেন।
১৯৭২ সালে প্রখ্যাত চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক এস এম শফীর সঙ্গে তার পরিচয় ঘটে। শফীর আগ্রহেই ১৯৭২ সালে তার পরিচালিত ‘ছন্দ হারিয়ে গেল’ চলচ্চিত্রের সহকারী পরিচালক হন তিনি। এতে ছোট একটি চরিত্রে অভিনয়ও করেন।
১৯৭৪ সালে আরেক প্রখ্যাত চিত্রনির্মাতা মোহসিন পরিচালিত ‘রাতের পর দিন’ চলচ্চিত্রে প্রথম নায়ক হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ তার। চলচ্চিত্রটির অসামান্য সাফল্যে রাতারাতি সুপারস্টার বনে যান তিনি।
ওয়াসিম অভিনীত উল্লেখযোগ্য সিনেমাগুলো হলো- দর্শকনন্দিত এই অভিনেতার নামেই ’৭০ আর ৮০’র দশকে সিনেমা হলে উপচে পড়ত দর্শক। দি রেইন, ডাকু মনসুর, জিঘাংসা, কে আসল কে নকল, বাহাদুর, দোস্ত দুশমন, মানসী, দুই রাজকুমার, সওদাগর, নরম গরম, ইমান, রাতের পর দিন, আসামি হাজির, মিস লোলিতা, রাজ দুলারী, চন্দন দ্বীপের রাজকন্যা, লুটেরা, লাল মেম সাহেব, বেদ্বীন, জীবন সাথী, রাজনন্দিনী, রাজমহল, বিনি সুতার মালা, বানজারান, মিস লোলিতাসহ প্রায় দেড় শতাধিক সুপার হিট ছবির নায়ক এই কিংবদন্তি অভিনেতা।
