রোববার দিল্লি ক্যাপিট্যালসের বিপক্ষে ম্যাচের আগে এক বিবৃতির মাধ্যমে রাহুলের অসুস্থতার কথা জানিয়েছে পাঞ্জাব ফ্র্যাঞ্চাইজি। বিবৃতি থেকে জানা যায়, শনিবার রাতে পেটে তীব্র ব্যথা অনুভব করলে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা ও ওষুধ দেয়া হয় রাহুলকে।
কিন্তু তাতে কোনো কাজ হয়নি। তাই দ্রুত হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয় তাকে এবং সেখানে পরীক্ষানিরীক্ষার পর জানা গেছে, তীব্র অ্যাপেন্ডিসাইটিসে আক্রান্ত রাহুল। যার ফলে এখন অপারেশনের মাধ্যমে এটি অপসারণ করতে হবে।
রাহুল ছিটকে যাওয়ায়, দিল্লি ক্যাপিট্যালসের বিপক্ষে ম্যাচটিতে অধিনায়কত্ব দেয়া হয় উদ্বোধনী ব্যাটসম্যান মায়াঙ্ক আগারওয়ালকে। যিনি অধিনায়কত্বের প্রথম ম্যাচেই খেলেন ৯৯ রানের অপরাজিত ইনিংস। কিন্তু পাঞ্জাব ম্যাচ হেরেছে ৭ উইকেটের ব্যবধানে।
রোববারের আগপর্যন্ত সাত ম্যাচে ৬৬.২০ গড় ও ১৩৬.২১ স্ট্রাইকরেটে ৩৩১ রান করেন রাহুল। তখন তিনিই ছিলেন চলতি আসরের সর্বোচ্চ রান সংগ্রাহক। শুক্রবার রয়্যাল চ্যালেঞ্জার্স ব্যাঙ্গালুরুর বিপক্ষে ম্যাচে ৯১ রানের অপরাজিত ইনিংস খেলেছিলেন রাহুল।
এখন রাহুল আইপিএলের বাকি অংশে আর ফিরতে পারবেন কি না সেই সিদ্ধান্ত নেবেন চিকিৎসকরা। অপারেশনের পর আবার পর্যবেক্ষণ করা হবে তার অবস্থা। এরপর হবে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত। সাধারণত এ ধরনের অপারেশনে সেরে উঠতে এক থেকে তিন সপ্তাহ সময় লাগে। তাই রাহুলের আইপিএলে ফেরা নিয়ে সংশয় থেকেই যায়।
