মেহেরপুরে বৈরী আবহাওয়ায় পরিপক্ব হবার আগেই ঝরে যাচ্ছে আমের গুটি। গরমে ফেটে যাচ্ছে লিচু। বাগানে নানা ধরনের রোগ বালাই দেখা দেয়ায় স্বপ্ন ভাঙছে বাগান মালিক ও ব্যবসায়ীদের। তবে চাষিদের গাছে পানি স্প্রে ও বালাই বা ছত্রাকনাশক দেয়ার পরামর্শ দিচ্ছে কৃষি অফিস।
বিভিন্ন আম ও লিচু বাগান ঘুরে দেখা গেছে, গাছের ডালে বিভিন্ন জাতের আমের গুটি দুলছে। কিছু গুটি ঝরে গেছে। পোকায় ধরেছে অধিকাংশ আমে। লিচু পরিপক্ব হবার আগেই ফেটে যাচ্ছে। বাগান মালিকরা পানি ও ছত্রাক নাশক স্প্রে করছেন আম ও লিচু গাছে। তারপরও আশানুরূপ ফল পাচ্ছেন না বলে জানিয়েছেন তারা।
মেহেরপুর আমঝুপি গ্রামের বাগানের মালিক সাখাওয়াত হোসেন বলেন, তার ৯ বিঘা আম ও লিচুর বাগান রয়েছে। প্রথমে কোনো রোগ বালাই না থাকলেও এখন নানা রোগ দেখা দিয়েছে। কৃষি অফিস যেভাবে পরামর্শ দিয়েছে সেভাবেই কাজ করছি, কিন্তু আশানুরূপ ফল পাচ্ছি না।
গাংনীর হেমায়েতপুর গ্রামের আনারুল ইসলাম বলেন, তার বাগানের লিচুর ফলনে বিপর্যয় হবে। প্রতিটি লিচুর থোকায় পোকা লেগেছে। ছত্রাকনাশক দিয়েও কোনো কাজ হচ্ছে না। আবার আমের গুটিতে যে স্বপ্ন বুনছিলাম তাও ভেঙে গেছে। গাছের আমের অর্ধেক গুটি ঝরে গেছে। সেই সাথে দেখা দিয়েছে পোকা।
একই উপজেলার জুগির গোফা গ্রামের আম ব্যবসায়ী জাহাঙ্গীর ও হজরত জানান, আম ব্যবসায়ীদের লোকসানের হাত থেকে বাঁচাতে দুইবছরের জন্য আম বাগান লিজ দেয়া হয়। তিনি পাঁচটি বাগান লিজ নিয়েছেন। গেল বছর অতিবৃষ্টির কারণে ফলন বিপর্যয় ছিল। এ বছর সেই লোকসান কাটিয়ে উঠতে গাছের পরিচর্যাও করা হয়েছে। কিন্তু অনাবৃষ্টির কারণে সে আশাও এখন নিরাশায় পরিণত হচ্ছে।
জেলা কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদফতরের হিসেব মতে, জেলায় এবার দুই হাজার ৩৫০ হেক্টর জমিতে আম ও ৬৮০ হেক্টর জমিতে লিচুর চাষ করা হয়েছে। গাছে গাছে আমের গুটি আর লিচু ছিল ভরপুর। বাম্পার ফলনেরও আশা করা হয়েছিল। কিন্তু এবার সেই ফলন বিপর্যয়ের আশঙ্কা করা হচ্ছে।
