মার্কিন প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী লয়েড অস্টিন জানান, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের অনেক কিছু করার সক্ষমতা আছে। তবে চীনা মহাকাশ প্রকল্প ‘তিয়ানহে স্পেস স্টেশন’ রকেটটি গোলা ছুড়ে নামানোর পরিকল্পনা নেই যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রতিরক্ষা বিভাগের।
বৃহস্পতিবার তিনি গণমাধ্যমকে বলেন, আমাদের প্রত্যাশা এটি এমন কোনো জায়গায় পড়বে যেখানে কারোর ক্ষতি হবে না। আশা করা যায় সাগর অথবা এমন কোনো জায়গায়। কক্ষপথচ্যুত হয়ে যাওয়ার চীনের অবহেলায় হয়েছে।
লং মার্চ ৫বি নামের রকেটটি বেইজিংয়ের মহাকাশ স্টেশন থেকে আলাদা হয়ে যাওয়ার পর এটি কক্ষপথ থেকে বিচ্যুত হয়ে যায়। তিনি বলেন, ‘আমি মনে করি, আমরা যারা মহাকাশে কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করি তাদের একটি শর্ত থাকা উচিত, অথবা নিরাপদ ও বিবেচনার সঙ্গে কার্যক্রম চালাতে শর্ত থাকা উচিত।’
মার্কিন প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী আরও বলেন, মহাকাশে ‘কার্যক্রম চালানোর পরিকল্পনা করার সময় আমরা এই ধরনের জিনিসগুলো বিবেচনায় নেব’ তা নিশ্চিত করার প্রয়োজন রয়েছে।
চীনের রাষ্ট্রীয় গণমাধ্যম গত কয়েকদিন ধরে আশঙ্কা প্রকাশ করে আসছে, এই রকেটের ধ্বংসাবশেষ জনবহুল অঞ্চলে বিধ্বস্ত হতে পারে আবার আন্তর্জাতিক জলসীমাতেও পড়তে পারে। মহাকাশ বিশেষজ্ঞ সং ঝংপিংয়ের বরাত দিয়ে গ্লোবাল টাইমস জানিয়েছে, চীনের স্পেস মনিটরিং নেটওয়ার্ক এ বিষয়ে নিবিড়ভাবে নজর রাখবে এবং কোথাও কোন ক্ষতি হলে প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করবে।
মহাকাশে এই রকেটের ধবংসাবশেষ এখন পৃথিবী প্রদক্ষিণ করছে এবং এটি বায়ুমণ্ডলের নিম্ন স্তরে ঢুকছে। এর মানে হল, এটি পৃথিবীর চারিদিকে বৃত্তাকারে ঘুরতে ঘুরতে নীচের দিকে নেমে আসছে।
