সময় কত দ্রুত যায়! ১৯ বছর পেরিয়ে গেল এ দেশের সংস্কৃতির আঙ্গিনার উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র রওশন জামিল চলে গেলেন। ২০০২ সালের ১৪ মে মৃত্যুবরণ করেন এই কিংবদন্তি।
আজ রওশন জামিলের জন্মদিন। ১৯৩১ সালের ৮ মে ঢাকার রোকনপুরে এক সম্ভ্রান্ত মুসলিম পরিবারে তিনি জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তার শিক্ষাজীবন শুরু হয় লক্ষ্মীবাজার সেন্ট ফ্রান্সিস মিশনারি স্কুলে। পরবর্তীতে তিনি ইডেন কলেজে পড়াশোনা করেছেন।
শৈশবেই রওশন নাচের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট হয়ে নৃত্যানুশীলন শুরু করেন। ম্যাট্রিক পাসের পর ওয়ারী শিল্পকলা ভবনে নাচের প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা গ্রহণকালে প্রখ্যাত নৃত্যশিল্পী ও নৃত্যকলার শিক্ষক প্রয়াত গওহর জামিলের সঙ্গে তার পরিচয় থেকে প্রেম হয়। গওহর ধর্ম বদলে মুসলিম হবার পর ১৯৫২ সালে তাকেই বিয়ে করেন রওশন জামিল। তারা ছিলেন ২ ছেলে ও ৩ মেয়ের জনক-জননী।
এদেশে নৃত্য শিল্পকে জনপ্রিয় করে তোলার ক্ষেত্রে এই শিল্পিযুগল অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করেন। এই দম্পতি মিলে ১৯৫৯ সালে রাজধানীর স্বামীবাগে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন নৃত্য প্রশিক্ষণ কেন্দ্র ‘জাগো আর্ট সেন্টার’। সেটি এখনো চলমান। প্রায় ৫০০ শিক্ষার্থী এখানে নাচের উপর শিক্ষা নিচ্ছে।
নৃত্যশিল্পী হলেও একজন অভিনেত্রী হিসেবও রওশন জামিল সর্বজন শ্রদ্ধেয়। এদেশে যখন ছেলেদের মেয়ে সেজে মঞ্চে অভিনয় করতে হতো, সেই তখনই (১৯৫২ সালের দিকে) রওশন জামিল জগন্নাথ কলেজে মঞ্চায়িত শরৎচন্দ্রের ‘দেবদাস’ নাটকে অভিনয় করেন। তিনি বেশ কয়েকটি বিজ্ঞাপনচিত্রেরও মডেল হন।
আর ১৯৬৫ সালে টেলিভিশনে রক্ত দিয়ে লেখা নাটকে অভিনয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে রওশন জামিলের অভিনয়জীবন শুরু হয়। বিটিভির ‘ঢাকায় থাকি’ এবং ‘সকাল সন্ধ্যা’ ধারাবাহিক নাটকের অভিনয় তাকে অবিস্মরণীয় করে রেখেছে।
১৯৬৭ সালে আরব্য রূপকথা ‘আলিবাবা চল্লিশ চোর’ ছবিতে অভিনয়ের মাধ্যমে চলচ্চিত্রে যাত্রা করেন রওশন জামিল। বাকিটুকু ইতিহাস। চলচ্চিত্রে অভিনয়ে তিনি নতুন মাত্রা যোগ করেছিলেন। অভিনেত্রী হিসেবে তিনি নতুন একটি স্টাইল নির্মাণ করেন। তাই সবার মধ্যে থেকেও তিনি ছিলেন ব্যতিক্রম। কোমল কঠিন সব চরিত্র দিয়েই তিনি দর্শকদের মন মাতিয়েছিলেন।
তার উল্লেখযোগ্য চলচ্চিত্রগুলোর মধ্যে গোরী, গীত কাঁহি সংগীত কাঁহি (উর্দু), মনের মত বউ, জীবন থেকে নেয়া, তিতাস একটি নদীর নাম, সূর্য সংগ্রাম, গোলাপী এখন ট্রেনে, আবার তোরা মানুষ হ, ওরা ১১ জন, মাটির ঘর, সূর্য দীঘল বাড়ী, দেবদাস, রামের সুমতি, জননী, নয়নমণি, জীবন মৃত্যু, মিস ললিতা, নদের চাঁদ, মাটির কোলে, বাঁধনহারা, দহন ইত্যাদি এবং স্বল্পদৈর্ঘ্য চলচ্চিত্র আগামী, পোকামাকড়ের ঘরবসতি ও লালসালু অন্যতম।
সংস্কৃতিতে অসামান্য অবদানের জন্য রওশন জামিল দীর্ঘ কর্মজীবনে অসংখ্য পুরস্কারে ভূষিত হয়েছেন। তারমধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য জাতীয় চলচ্চিত্র পুরস্কার, টেনাশিনাস পদক, সিকোয়েন্স অ্যাওয়ার্ড, বাচসাস চলচ্চিত্র পুরস্কার, তারকালোক পুরস্কার।
আর নৃত্যে তিনি ১৯৯৫ সালে একুশে পদক লাভ করেন।
