সিনিয়র সচিব হলেন যুব ও ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব মো. আখতার হোসেন। পদোন্নতির পর তাকে একই মন্ত্রণালয়ে পদায়ন করে বুধবার (২ জুন) জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে প্রজ্ঞাপন জারি করা হয়েছে।
২০১৯ সালের ১৬ সেপ্টেম্বর যুব ও ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব পদে যোগদান করেন আখতার হোসেন। এর আগে গৃহায়ন ও গণপূর্ত মন্ত্রণালয়ে অতিরিক্ত সচিব হিসেবে কর্মরত ছিলেন তিনি।
আখতার হোসেন বিসিএস প্রশাসন ক্যাডারে ১৯৮৮ সালে যোগদান করেন। চাকরি জীবনের শুরুতে তিনি ১০ বছরের বেশি সময় ধরে ফেনী, চাঁদপুর, কক্সবাজার ও ঝালকাঠী জেলায় সহকারী কমিশনার, উপজেলা ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট ও উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা পদে দায়িত্ব ছিলেন।
তিনি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে সমাজ বিজ্ঞানে ১৯৮৩ সালে বিএসএস (অনার্স) এবং ১৯৮৪ সালে সমাজবিজ্ঞানে মাস্টার্স ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন। এছাড়া চাকরিকালীন সরকারের অনুমতি নিয়ে এলএলবি ও এমবিএ ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন।
