ব্রিটেন ভিত্তিক গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান ইকোনোমিস্ট ইন্টেলিজেন্স ইউনিট (ইআইইউ) ২০২১ সালের বসবাসযোগ্য শহরের তালিকায় ১৪০টি শহরের মধ্যে ঢাকার অবস্থান ১৩৭তম। অর্থাৎ, বসবাস অযোগ্য শহরের তালিকায় ঢাকা চতুর্থ।
এ বছর ৩৩ দশমিক ৫ পয়েন্ট নিয়ে সর্বশেষ ঘোষিত তালিকার চেয়ে একধাপ এগিয়েছে ঢাকা। ২০১৯ সালে তালিকার ১৩৮ নম্বরে থাকলেও এবার রয়েছে ১৩৭ নম্বরে। এর আগে ২০১৮ সালে ঢাকা ছিল এই তালিকার ১৩৯তম শহর।
মহামারি করোনা ভাইরাসের কারণে ‘লকডাউন’ থাকা শহরের তথ্য সংগ্রহ করতে না পারায় ২০২০ সালের তালিকা করার কাজ বাতিল করে ইকোনোমিস্ট ইন্টেলিজেন্স ইউনিট। করোনা মহামারির কারণে এই তালিকায় এসেছে বেশ পরিবর্তন। রয়টার্সের এক প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, ভিয়েনাকে টপকে এবারের বসবাস যোগ্য শহরের তালিকায় প্রথম স্থানে রয়েছে অকল্যান্ড।
স্থিতিশীলতা, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, সংস্কৃতি ও পরিবেশ, শিক্ষা এবং অবকাঠামোর ওপর ভিত্তি করে ১৪০টি শহরের এই তালিকা তৈরি করে। এ বছর ঢাকা স্থিতিশীলতায় ৫৫, স্বাস্থ্যসেবায় ১৬ দশমিক সাত, সংস্কৃতি ও পরিবেশে ৩০ দশমিক আট, শিক্ষায় ৩৩ দশমিক তিন এবং অবকাঠামোতে ২৬ দশমিক ৮ পয়েন্ট পেয়েছে।
