কুষ্টিয়ায় পদ্মা ও তার প্রধান শাখা গড়াই নদীতে পানি বাড়ছে। এতে জেলার বন্যা ও ভাঙন পরিস্থিতির অবনতি হয়েছে। দৌলতপুর উপজেলার পদ্মা তীরবর্তী চরাঞ্চলের দুই ইউনিয়নের ৩৭টি গ্রাম প্লাবিত হয়েছে। সেখানকার অন্তত ৫০ হাজার মানুষ পানিবন্দি হয়ে পড়েছে। শিশু, বৃদ্ধ মানুষ ও গবাদিপশু নিয়ে চরম দুর্ভোগ পোহাচ্ছে তারা।
পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের তথ্যমতে, কুষ্টিয়ায় গত ২৪ ঘন্টায় পদ্মায় পানি বেড়েছে দশমিক ৩ মিটার। এই সময়ে পদ্মার প্রধান শাখা গড়াইয়ে দশমিক ৪ মিটার পানি বেড়েছে। এখন পানি বিপদসীমার কাছাকাছি দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে। পদ্মার হার্ডিঞ্জ ব্রিজ পয়েন্টে পানির বিপদসীমা ১৪ দশমিক ২৫ মিটার থেকে মাত্র দশমিক ৫ মিটার নিচ দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে।
এদিকে প্রতিবারের মতো এবারও দৌলতপুর উপজেলার রামকৃষ্ণপুর ইউনিয়নের ১৯টি গ্রামের মধ্যে ১৭টি গ্রাম ও চিলমারী ইউনিয়নের ২০টি গ্রাম মোট ৩৭ গ্রাম প্লাবিত হয়েছে। সেখানকার বন্যা পরিস্থিতির অবনতি হওয়ায় ওই সকল গ্রামের ৫০ হাজার মানুষ এখন পানিবন্দি অবস্থায় মানবেতর জীবনযাপন করছে।
বন্যাকবলিতরা বলেন, বন্যায় আমন ধান, পাটক্ষেত ও মরিচক্ষেতসহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের কয়েক হাজার হেক্টর জমির ফসল পানিতে তলিয়ে গেছে। বিশুদ্ধ পানি ও পশু খাদ্যেরও সংকট দেখা দিয়েছে। পর্যাপ্ত ত্রাণ সহায়তা পাননি তারা।
দৌলতপুর আসনের সংসদ সদস্য এ্যাড. আ. কা. ম. সরওয়ার জাহান বাদশাহ্ বলেন, বন্যাকবলিত এলাকায় ইতোমধ্যে ১ হাজার পরিবারের মধ্যে ১০ মেট্রিকটন চাল, ৩ লাখ টাকার খাদ্য সহায়তা দেওয়া হয়েছে। মানুষের আশ্রয়ের জন্য এলাকার স্কুলসহ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো খুলে দেওয়া হয়েছে। দ্রুত সময়ে বন্যার্তদের আরও ত্রাণ সহায়তার কথা জানিয়ে স্থায়ী বন্যা নিয়ন্ত্রণ বাঁধ নির্মাণের কথা জানিয়েছেন এই সংসদ সদস্য।
কুষ্টিয়া পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ড এর তত্বাবধায়ক প্রকৌশলী মো. আব্দুল হামিদ বলেন, গত কয়েকদিন ধরে অস্বাভাবিক হারে পানি বৃদ্ধির ফলে কুষ্টিয়া-হরিপুর শেখ রাসেল সেতু রক্ষা বাঁধসহ নদীতীরবর্তী বিভিন্ন উপকূলে ভাঙন পরিস্থিতির অবনতি হয়েছে। ভাঙন রোধে বিভিন্ন স্থানে বালুর বস্তা ফেলছে পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ড। তিনি বলেন, এভাবে পানি বাড়তে থাকলে আগামী সোমবারের মধ্যে পানি বিপদসীমা ছুঁয়ে ফেলবে। এতে আরও ক্ষয়ক্ষতি বাড়তে পারে।
