বিএনপির রাজনীতি শুধু খালেদা জিয়ার স্বাস্থ্যে আটকে আছে, দেশের মানুষের স্বাস্থ্য উন্নয়ন অগ্রগতি নিয়ে বিএনপি চিন্তিত নয় বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন তথ্য ও সম্প্রচারমন্ত্রী এবং আওয়ামী লীগের যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক ড. হাছান মাহমুদ।
মঙ্গলবার (১ জুন) দুপুরে জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবে দৈনিক ইত্তেফাকের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সম্পাদক প্রয়াত তফাজ্জল হোসেন মানিক মিয়ার স্মরণসভায় এ মন্তব্য করেন তিনি।
স্বাধীন সংবাদপত্র পাঠক সমিতি আয়োজিত এ স্মরণসভায় তথ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, দেশের উন্নয়ন-অগ্রগতি অনেকে দেখেও দেখে না, বুঝেও বোঝে না। তাদের রাজনীতিকরা খালি খালেদা জিয়ার স্বাস্থ্য নিয়ে আবর্তিত। দেশের মানুষের স্বাস্থ্য উন্নয়ন অগ্রগতি নিয়ে তারা কোনোভাবে চিন্তা করে বলে মনে হয় না।
তফাজ্জল হোসেন মানিক মিয়াকে স্মরণ করে ড. মাহমুদ বলেন, একটা সময় ছিল যখন পত্রিকা বলতে ইত্তেফাকসহ দু-একটি পত্রিকাকেই বোঝাত। তবে সেগুলোর মধ্যে ইত্তেফাক সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রমিনেন্ট ছিল। তখন মানুষের শোষণ বঞ্চনা তুলে ধরা এবং জনগণকে প্রতিবাদমুখর করার ক্ষেত্রে ইত্তেফাকের ভূমিকা ছিল অনবদ্য। আর সেই ইত্তেফাকের সম্পাদক ছিলেন তফাজ্জল হোসেন মানিক মিয়া। স্বাধীনতার ৫০ বছরে এসে আজকে তফাজ্জল হোসেন মানিক মিয়ার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানাই।
হাছান মাহমুদ বলেন, বাংলাদেশ স্বল্পোন্নত দেশ থেকে মধ্যম আয়ের দেশে উন্নীত হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ আজকের সমস্ত সূচকে পাকিস্তানকে পেছনে ফেলেছে। মানব উন্নয়ন সূচক, সামাজিক এবং অর্থনৈতিক সূচকসহ সব সূচকেই পেছনে ফেলেছে। আমরা যখন স্বাধীন হই তখন পশ্চিম পাকিস্তান আমাদের তুলনায় ৭০ ভাগ ধনী ছিল। আজকে অনেক সূচকে আমরা ভারতকে ছাড়িয়ে গেছি।
নিউইয়র্ক ভিত্তিক ম্যাগাজিন ব্লুমবার্গে বাংলাদেশের উন্নয়ন নিয়ে একটি আর্টিকেল প্রকাশিত হয়েছে উল্লেখ করে বিএনপির মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীরকে উদ্দেশ্য করে তথ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, আজকে ব্লুম বার্গে প্রকাশিত আর্টিকেলটি তাকে পড়ার অনুরোধ জানাচ্ছি। এরপর আমাদের সমালোচনা করুন।
