রংপুরের মিঠাপুকুরের আদিবাসী পল্লিতে ঘুমন্ত বাবাকে কুড়াল দিয়ে কুপিয়ে হত্যার ঘটনায় পালিয়ে থাকা ছেলে জীবন কুজুরকে (৩৮) গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
সোমবার (১৪ জুন) মধ্য রাতে মিঠাপুকুর উপজেলার শঠিবাড়ি এলাকা থেকে তাকে গ্রেফতার করে থানা পুলিশ।
শুক্রবার (১১ জুন) দুপুরে মিঠাপুকুর উপজেলার হযরতপুর ইউনিয়নের রামেশ্বরপাড়া গ্রামে ঘুমন্ত বাবা মোংলা কুজুরকে (৬০) কুড়াল দিয়ে কুপিয়ে হত্যা করে তার ছেলে জীবন কুজুর। তার পর থেকে তিনি পলাতক ছিলেন। এ সময় জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে হত্যার কাজে ব্যবহৃত কুড়ালটি উদ্ধার করা হয়।
রংপুরের (পীরগঞ্জ-মিঠাপুকুর) সহকারী পুলিশ সুপার (ডি-সার্কেল) মো. কামরুজ্জামান মঙ্গলবার (১৫ জুন) সকালে গ্রেফতারের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে বলেন, জীবন কুজুর ইটভাটায় কাজ করে সংসার চালাতেন। ৫/৬ বছর আগে তার মা মারা গেছেন। বাবা, দুই সন্তান ও স্ত্রীকে নিয়েই তার সংসার।
গত দুই বছর আগে জীবন কুজুরের মানসিক সমস্যা দেখা দেয় বলে জনশ্রুতি রয়েছে। এরপর বিভিন্ন জায়গায় তার চিকিৎসা করানো হয়। তিনি বর্তমানে সুস্থ। কিন্তু ঘটনার দিন ঘুমন্ত বাবা মোংলা কুজুরকে কুড়াল দিয়ে কুপিয়ে হত্যা করে ছেলে জীবন কুজুর। এ ঘটনায় নিহতের চাচাতো ভাই আতুল কুজুর মাস্টার বাদী হয়ে জীবন কুজুরের বিরুদ্ধে হত্যা মামলা দায়ের করেন। হত্যাকাণ্ডের পর থেকে জীবন কুজুর পলাতক ছিলেন। পুলিশ তাকে গ্রেফতারে বিভিন্ন এলাকায় অভিযান শুরু করে। অবশেষে সোমবার রাতে তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়।
তিনি জানান, ঘটনার দিন তিনি হঠাৎ তার বাবার ঘরে ঢুকে কুড়াল দিয়ে কুপিয়ে হত্যা করে পালিয়ে যান। জীবন কুজুর হত্যাকাণ্ডের দায় স্বীকার করেছেন এবং তিনি একাই এ হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটিয়েছেন।
গ্রেফতারকৃত আসামিকে আদালতে পাঠানো হয়েছে বলে জানান পুলিশের এ ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তা।
