জরুরি অবস্থার কারণে মালয়েশিয়ার পার্লামেন্ট অধিবেশন আপাতত স্থগিত রয়েছে। তবে আগামী মাসে পার্লামেন্ট অধিবেশন শুরু হওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। সেখানে নিজের জনপ্রিয়তা যাচাই করে দেখার জন্য আস্থা ভোট আয়োজনের প্রস্তাব দেন। কিন্তু জোট সরকারের কয়েকজন শরিক তাদের সমর্থন তুলে নেয়ায় চাপে পড়েছেন মুহিউদ্দীন।
মালয়েশিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, আমি সহজ পথ বেছে নিয়ে পদত্যাগ করতে পারি। কিন্তু আর কোনও নেতার সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠতা নেই, যিনি রাজার অনুমতি নিয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী হওয়ার ক্ষমতা রাখেন। সেক্ষেত্রে দেশে কোনও সরকার থাকবে না। আর ক্রমেই অবনতি হতে থাকা মহামারির মধ্যে দেশে অচলাবস্থা সৃষ্টি হবে।
মুহিউদ্দীন বলেছেন, বেশ কিছু সুবিধা দেয়ার বিনিময়ে তিনি বিরোধীদের সমর্থন চাইবেন। এই তালিকায় রয়েছে- প্রধানমন্ত্রীর শাসনকাল কমানো, ভোটদানের বয়স ২১ থেকে ১৮ করা, চেক অ্যান্ড ব্যালান্স নিশ্চিত করা এবং বিরোধী নেতাকে একজন সিনিয়র মন্ত্রীর মর্যাদা দেয়া।
এছাড়া করোনা মোকাবিলায় এবং গরিবদের সাহায্যে আরও অর্থ বরাদ্দেরও প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছেন মুহিউদ্দীন। সরকার যেন এই মাহমারির মধ্যেও পার্লামেন্টে সমর্থন নিয়ে কাজ চালিয়ে যেতে পারে সেজন্য আমি এই প্রস্তাব দিয়েছি। তিনি ক্ষমতা আকড়ে থাকতে চান না বলেও দাবি করেন মুহিউদ্দীন।
