সিনেমা স্টাইলে হামলা চালিয়ে কারাগার থেকে কমপক্ষে ২৪০ বন্দিকে ছাড়িয়ে নিয়ে গেছে বন্দুকধারীরা। আফ্রিকার দেশ নাইজেরিয়ায় রোববার এই ঘটনা ঘটেছে বলে জানিয়েছে সংবাদ মাধ্যম আল জাজিরা।
প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, মুখপাত্র ফ্রান্সিস ইনোবরে বলেন, আবুজার দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের কগি রাজ্যের কাব্বার ওই কারাগার থেকে অন্তত ২৪০ জন বন্দিকে মুক্ত করে নিয়ে গেছে হামলাকারীরা। তবে হতাহতের ব্যাপারে কোনো তথ্য জানাননি তিনি। ছাড়িয়ে নেওয়া বন্দিদের ধরতে এরইমধ্যে কারা প্রশাসনের কন্ট্রোলার হালিরু নাবাবাকে দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে।
বন্দুকধারীরা তিন দিক থেকে কারাগারে হামলা চালায়। তারা গুলি করে ও বিষ্ফোরণ ঘটিয়ে বন্দিদের নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর সমস্যাদের থেকে ছিনিয়ে নেয়। হামলায় দুজন কারাগারে দায়িত্ব কর্মকর্তা নিহত হয়েছেন।
২০০৮ সালে নির্মিত ২০০ ধারণক্ষমতা সম্পন্ন কারাগারটিতে মোট ২৯৪ জন বন্দী ছিল। এরমধ্যে শাস্তি প্রাপ্ত ৭০ জন ও ২২৪ জন বিচারের অপেক্ষায় ছিলেন। কারাগারটিতে মধ্যম মানের নিরাপত্তা ছিল বলে জানা গেছে।
