১৮৬২ সালের ২৯ সেপ্টেম্বর ইস্টার্ন বেঙ্গল রেলওয়ে কলকাতা থেকে রাণাঘাট পর্যন্ত রেলপথ স্হাপন করে। এই লাইনকেই বর্ধিত করে ১৫ নভেম্বর ১৮৬২ সালে দর্শনা থেকে জগতী পর্যন্ত ৫৩.১১ কিমি ব্রডগেজ (১,৬৭৬ মিমি) রেললাইন শাখা উন্মোচন করা হয়। কুষ্টিয়া থেকে পদ্মার পাড়ে (পদ্মা ও যমুনার সংযোগস্থল) অবস্থিত অভ্যন্তরীণ নদীবন্দর গোয়ালন্দ ঘাট পর্যন্ত ৭৫ কিমি দীর্ঘ রেললাইন স্হাপন করা হয়।
১ জানুয়ারি ১৮৭১ সালে। এসময় কুষ্টিয়া(জগতি) থেকে গোয়ালন্দ ঘাট লাইনের স্টেশন হিসেবে চড়াইকোল রেলওয়ে স্টেশন তৈরি করা হয়। এই স্টেশন স্থাপনের ফলে শিলাইদহের জমিদার কলকাতার বাবু মশাইদের কলকাতা শিলাইদহ যোগাযোগ সহজ হয়েছিল। শিলাইদহের বিভিন্ন সময়ে অতিথিরা আসতেন তাঁরা কখনো কখনো এই চড়াইকোল স্টেশন ব্যবহার করতেন।
বর্তমানে সবচেয়ে নাজুক অবস্থা কুষ্টিয়ার এই চড়াইকোল রেলস্টেশনটির। সরজমিনে দেখা গেছে অফিসিয়ালি স্টেশনে এখানে কোনো আন্তনগর ট্রেন থামে না। ট্রেনের ক্রসিং প্রয়োজন হলে ও লুপ লাইন অকেজো থাকায় তা ক্রসিং করানো ও সম্ভব নয়, লোকাল ট্রেনগুলো ২/১ মিনিটের জন্য থামলেও যাত্রী নেই। ২৫ আপ ও ২৬ ডাউন নকশিকাঁথা এক্সপ্রেস এই স্টেশনে যাত্রাবিরতি করে,আর পোড়াদহ-গোয়ালন্দ লোকাল যাত্রাবিরতি করে (করোনা’র কারনে লোকাল ট্রেনটির বন্ধ রয়েছে) এমনকি স্টেশনটিতে নেই স্টেশন মাষ্টার ও। তাই স্টেশনটিকে একপ্রকার বন্ধ ই বলা যায়, নিয়ম রক্ষায় লোকাল ট্রেন শুধু থামে।স্টেশনের বিভিন্ন অংশ ভেঙ্গে গিয়েছে,দেখে মনে হবে যেনো ভুতুড়ে এক জায়গা।
কুষ্টিয়া জেলার ১০টি রেলস্টেশনের মধ্যে ভেড়ামারা, কুষ্টিয়া কোর্ট ও পোড়াদহ বর্তমানে সবচেয়ে কোলাহলপূর্ণ। কিন্তু বাকি অন্যান্য সব স্টেশনের অবস্থা ও করুণ ই বলা যায়। রেলওয়ে প্রশাসন দৃষ্টি না দিলে একদিন কালের অতল গহব্বরে হারিয়ে যাবে প্রাচীন এই স্টেশনটি।
